Two Truths and a Lie

Lexie Brown
Instructions:
-          Each group member comes up with two truths and a lie about themselves
-          Each group member takes turns reading their facts out loud
-          The remaining group members try and guess which fact is the lie

Source:
-          Prior knowledge
-          Step by step instructions can be found here: http://www.wikihow.com/Play-Two-Truths,-One-Lie

Proposed Results:
-          Team members may have difficulty guessing which of the three facts are a lie
-          Team members will learn more about their fellow team members by completing this exercise
-          Team members may even catch on to the lying styles of their fellow teammates
Lexie:
-          I love sushi
-          I was born on Father’s Day
-          I know how to snowboard

Emily:
-          I’m a black-belt in karate
-          I have attended a children’s beauty pageant
-          My favorite animal is the moose
Molly:
-          Over the summer I ripped my earring out of my left ear and had to get it surgically repaired
-          I’m a dual citizen of the UK and America
-          All three of my suitemates and I had to be vaccinated last year because we had bats in our room
Ken:
-          I’ve met a president
-          I like organ music
-          I love rollercoasters
Colleen:
-          I’ve never eaten a papaya
-          I have danced in a Bollywood competition
-          I have never been to Italy

Results: We all thought that Molly was lying about being a dual citizen, but she was in fact born in London!  She ripped her earring out of her right ear, not her left.
Everyone thought I didn’t know how to snowboard, but actually I hate sushi.
We were right that Colleen’s never been to Italy.  She hesitated when picking the destination that she had never been to before, so we knew she was lying.  We were surprised she’s never eaten a papaya before and she actually Irished-danced in a Bollywood competition in New Jersey.
Ken hates rollercoasters, which everyone was right about.
We thought Emily was lying about being a black-belt, but watch out – she is!  She’s never been to a children’s beauty pageant, but she really wants to go.

Conclusion: Two Truths and a Lie serves as a “get to know you” game as well as getting to know the creativity of your group members and sometimes even the way in which they lie.  We got to learn interesting facts about our group members as well as revealing some cool facts about ourselves.  This activity was the first group activity we did, and furthered our socialization process.
